Firm Foundations 2010

On a sunny Sunday at the end of May we made our way down the M1 from Stourbridge (via Kingswinford where Dave had left his drum pedal!) all the way down to Hemel Hempstead. We were on a tight schedule, England’s friendly against Japan kicked off at 1.15 and when we hit traffic we weren’t sure we were going to make it! However we had left plenty of time and arrived just after kick off. Imagine our surprise that the score was already 1-0 to Japan! We settled in to watch the rest of the match, although as Tim pointed out, even if the England team hadn’t turned up they still could have won!!

After all that excitement we got ready for sound check. We found the venue, and unloaded the equipment. After a slight technical hitch with the laptop everything worked and we ran through some songs ready for the evening. When sound check was over we went to hear the set of the other band playing that day – Broken For. We really enjoyed their cover of ‘where is the love’ and were disappointed that they weren’t around for our set later – otherwise there might have been a collaboration!

After tea our next adventure before we played was to be interviewed for part of the video that we would be recording during the gig. We had an idea that we wanted to have tents in the background and us sitting on a sofa. Imagine people’s surprise when they saw 5 of us carrying a bright yellow sofa from venue 2 all the way across the site to the field to set up a video shoot.

We just had time left to check out the evening worship sessions and then have a prayer time before it was time to get on stage. Instruments and cameras were set up and we were ready to go! We launched into our first song which was one of our newest songs that will be on our forthcoming album, and we were off. The lights in the tent were ace, but we couldn’t see the crowd so Tim got them on their feet out the front. A couple of chart covers followed which got the crowd involved in singing along. About half way through the set we had a surprise for the crowd as we were recording a track for our next video. The crowd response was amazing and I can’t wait to see how the video turns out!

Thanks to everyone involved in the organisation of the festival, they all made it a great place to play and were really helpful. Great festival, great crowd, great gig!!
